Router bits for doll's houses

Making your own doll’s house can be a real joy, and producing your own mouldings and other parts for doll’s houses, model making, and other miniature projects allows you to produce uniform parts that match perfectly to the style you want.

Making your own parts makes it easier to maintain consistency throughout a project, while producing something that’s unique. 

Doll’s house mouldings must be machined accurately, to exact proportions and from the right period to suit the doll’s house. You can buy pre-machined moulding for doll’s houses, but they are often expensive and they can differ from batch to batch, making consistency difficult. Also, the shapes of doll’s house mouldings can be different and the overall dimensions of pre-machine doll’s house mouldings can be out of proportion. Therefore, the best means of obtaining the correct size, and to gain a sense of achievement, is to craft your own. 

We have a selection of 1/12th scale doll’s house router bits  that are available as a 12 piece doll’s house set of cutters , or as individual doll’s house router bits . All these doll’s house router bits are tungsten carbide tipped, so they are hard and wear-resistant with a long cutting edge life, and they will give a clean cut on the timbers typically used in scale moulding manufacture. Nine of the cutters in this set are specifically designed for making doll’s house mouldings and the three straight cutters in the set can be used for rebating, grooving and slotting these mouldings, as well as producing window sash, casement sash, and other parts for doll’s houses. 

Using standard hand routers and these router bits virtually all types of scale moulds can be produced, including stair handrails, skirting, coves, architraves, cornice, capping, and stair tread nosing. Also, the moulding cutters allow any doll’s house maker or miniaturist to run whatever length of moulding they require. The range of router bit profiles available means they can be used for different styles of doll’s house, including Victorian and Georgian periods. By using certain parts of the shapes in conjunction with others, a huge amount of different unique miniature moulds can be produced. 

The 12 piece set of doll's house router bits comes with the following types of router bits, all have a ¼" shank and they come in a wooden storage box. These router bits can also be purchased separately, and many of them have a corresponding version with an 8mm shank diameter.

Straights

There are three sizes of straight router bit included in the doll's house set. The single flute router bits both have a cutting edge length of 5mm and diameters of 1.6mm and 2mm. The two flute straight router bit has an 8mm cutting edge length and a diameter of 3.2mm. These router bits are ideal for rebating, or producing square bottomed grooves for things such as sash rails and stiles, and sliding box sash frame casing.

Ogee classic

These doll's house cutters have a classic ogee profile and are ideally suited to producing attractive cornice pieces for inside and outside doll's houses. Different profiles of cornice can easily be achieved by adjusting the height of the router bit.

Triple bead

The triple bead router bits for doll's houses have three differently sized radiuses for producing a range of different beading and nosing for doll's houses just by adjusting the router bit height and depth of cut.

Modern torus

The profile of the modern torus router bit allows you to produce a range of different nosings, hand rails, and skirting boards for doll's houses, by adjusting the position and depth of cut.

Double bead

The doll's house router bits with double bead profiles are usually used to produce various profiles of beading, picture frames, chair rails, and skirting boards to add finishing touches to any doll's house.

Multi-mould doll's house router bits have a relatively complex profile that will easily create different doll's house components by adjusting the router bit height and/or cutting depth. This router bit is ideal for shaping cornices and dart cornices, coving, beading, picture frames, architrave, skirting, and ovolo mould.
