Mitre lock router cutter sizes

Mitre corner router cutters are most often sized according to the following dimensions:

Shank diameter of mitre corner cutters

The shank diameter is measured across the centre of the shank from any point on its circumference.

Mitre corner cutters are available with ½" (12.7mm) shank diameters only.

Diameter of mitre corner cutters

This is the maximum width of the router cutter, and is measured from the outermost point of the cutting edges through the centre of the bit. 

Mitre corner router cutters have diameters ranging from 35mm (1⅜") and 51.3mm (2 1/64").

Cutting edges of mitre corner cutters

Length

This is the maximum length of the cutting edge of the router cutter. It is measured from the top of the cutting edge to the bottom.

Mitre corner router cutting edge lengths range from 23mm (29/32") to 25mm (1").

Angle

This is the angle of the cutting edges in relation to the horizontal plane.

Mitre corner cutters have angles of 45 degrees. 

Material thickness

This is the thickness of material that a cutter can be used in. 

Mitre corner router cutters are designed for use in materials of between 15mm (19/32") and 18mm (45/64") thick.

Shank diameter of mitre lock cutters

The shank diameter is measured across the centre of the shank from any point on its circumference.

Mitre lock cutters are available with ¼" (6.35mm) and ½" (12.7mm) shank diameters.

Overall length of mitre lock cutters

The overall length of a cutter is measured from the top of the shank to the bottom of the cutting edges or guide (if there is one).

Mitre lock cutters range in length from 54.5mm (2 9/64") to 69.5mm (2 45/64")

Diameter of mitre lock cutters

This is the maximum width of the router cutter, and is measured from the outermost point of the cutting edges through the centre of the bit. 

Mitre lock router cutters have diameters ranging from 42mm (1⅝")  to 68mm (2 11/16").

Length

This is the maximum length of the full cutting edge of the router cutter. It is measured from the top of the cutting edge to the bottom.

Mitre lock router cutting edge lengths range from 12.7mm (½") to 30mm (1 3/16"). 

Angle

This is the angle of the cutting edges in relation to the horizontal plane.

Mitre lock cutters have angles of 45 degrees. 

Material thickness

This is the thickness of material that a cutter can be used in. 

There are mitre lock router cutters for use in boards of between 8 and 12mm (5/16 and 15/32") and 15 and 25mm (19/32 and 1") in thickness.
