sizes are available?

Finger jointing router cutters are most often sized according to the following dimensions:

Shank diameter of finger jointing cutters

The shank diameter is measured across the centre of the shank from any point on its circumference.

Finger jointing cutters are available with ¼" (6.35mm) and ½" (12.7mm) shank diameters.

Overall length of finger jointing cutters

Diagram showing how to measure the overall length of a finger jointing router cutter

The overall length of a cutter is measured from the top of the shank to the bottom of the cutting edges or guide (if there is one).

Finger jointing cutters range in length from 58mm (2 9/32") to 90mm (3 17/32").

Diameter of finger jointing cutters

The diameter is the maximum width of the router cutter, measured from the outermost point of the cutting edges through the centre of the bit.

Finger jointing router cutters have diameters ranging from 24.6mm (61/64") to 40mm (1 37/64").

Length

This is the maximum length of the full cutting edge of the router cutter. It is measured from the top of the cutting edge to the bottom.

Finger jointing cutting edge lengths range from 18.5mm (47/64") to 38.1mm (1½").

Guide diameter of finger jointing cutters

Finger jointing router cutters are supplied with either a 12.7mm or 19.1mm (¾") ball-bearing guide located beneath their cutting edges.

The distance between the outside edge of the guide and the furthest tip of the cutting edge will determine the maximum width of cut that cutter will produce.

With most models, the guide bearing can be removed and replaced if it becomes damaged or broken.

This is the thickness of material that a cutter can be used in.

Finger jointing router cutters are designed for use in boards between 12.7mm (½") and 31mm (1 3/16") thick.
